A Golden Olympics and A Party Like No Other

Palm trees in Vancouver at the Westin Bayshore.
Sunshining on North Vancouver just after the Hockey Gold.

The golden rings with the snow capped mountains and North Vancouver in the background.

A Russian athlete receives a pin from the Olympic Club from a volunteer Canadian ambassador.

The Canadians wearing the colours outside the Olympic Club with was my "home" for 18 days.

The party filled the streets after the game.

Two Russians going home to regroup and plan for their chance to host the world in 2014.

Vancouver residents were in the streets from early morning until well into the night

By many reports, the closing ceremonies surpassed the opening ceremonies for fan appeal.

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have thoroughly enjoyed your blog and photos over these past 2 weeks Pat - it was almost like being there. Congratulations to Team Canada - we are so proud of all of our athletes. And kudos to the organizers and volunteers for an amazing Olympic experience! Cheers, Gloria

  2. Hi Pat! I was one of the Americans you met in the bar area in the River Rock Casino Resort as you were waiting for your wife. It was the 28th, and we had been to the Men's Gold Medal Hockey that day, and the closing ceremonies! Of course, that night I was feeling a chest cold come on,... and that was almost 2 weeks ago! I am STILL sick, as is my husband. Maybe because we were feeling sorry that Canada beat us in gold medals? Not sure. ha ha. It was nice to meet you, and I was glad I could find your Blog! If you want to see all my pictures, I have them up for "anyone " to see on my facbook account. I am Kathi Sircy,... so have a look if you want. We had a blast in Vancouver and hope to return again one day for a full visit of the city (with no athletic events to go to!) Hope you have recovered and are ready to be that part time librarian again!!!
Take care!! You Canadians are a friendly lot! But, I was glad I didn't have to see how you all acted if you had lost the Gold medal in Men's Hockey! ha ha!!
    Take care!
    Kathi

  3. Hello Pat!
What a wonderful chronicle of your adventure!
It was such a pleasure to have you on the OFH team! I'm so glad that you had so much fun- and I'm quite jealous that you got into the mint. It has moved now to the library for the Paralympics, but the line ups are still 3 hours long! Thank you for all your support and hard work, Christine
